(Everything I do) I do it for you

Sometimes I hear a song on the radio and I just know it was written to sing to God…

And then some songs… so filled with promises… love songs… I will give you the sun, the moon and  the stars songs with impossible promises no person can humanly keep.  Dad Spike Steven 1956

My Dad sang a song… I can still hear him singing it to me…  “I’d go to the ends of the world for you, if you would only be mine.” Great lyric, but nobody can full fill these words… at least no person singing to another could keep such a promise. Sure as heck…I would agree to be yours and you would do your darndest but wouldn’t quite make it to the ends of the world for me..!  I know it’s a metaphor… Yet somewhere deep inside my very heart and soul… my spirit tells me… these are love songs from God to man.

One such song is (everything I do) I do it for you…                                             read the printed lyrics and see for yourself

Look into my eyes, you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart, search your soul
And when you find me there you’ll search no more

Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
You can’t tell me it’s not worth dyin’ for
You know it’s true
Everything I do, I do it for you

Look into your heart, you will find
 There’s nothin’ there to hide
Take me as I am, take my life
I would give it all, I would sacrifice

Don’t tell me it’s not worth fightin’ for
 I can’t help it, there’s nothin’ I want more
You know it’s true
Everything I do, I do it for you
Oh yeah

There’s no love, like your love
And no other, could give more love
There’s nowhere, unless you’re there
All the time, all the way, yeah

Look into your heart, baby

Oh, you can’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
 I can’t help it, there’s nothin’ I want more
Yeah, I would fight for you, I’d lie** for you
Walk the wire for you, yeah I’d die for you

You know it’s true
Everything I do, oh, I do it for you

Inevitably, someone will point out to me a conflict in a lyric… saying… God would not say that… such an example is the word lie in “I do it for you” and I agree… if God spoke the words to Bryan Adams… someone changed them because I don’t believe God will lie for me… Even Spell Check agrees that the word “lie” is in error…**[Spell Check underlines the word “LIE” in blue & says it is a “word choice error”..]

My wife says… “I find it interesting that most people want someone that will  love them to the point of doing everything for them, even die for them”  So we fall in love with these songs that say we are wanted, accepted and loved so… and yet… may not realize we can have all of this in a relationship with Jesus Christ.  A love no other person could ever fulfill..!

Why do we fall in love with songs like Bryan Adams Everything I Do I do it for you..?  Because we long to be loved this much and we want to accept the idea that somewhere out there is a someone who could love us this much.  …which is exactly what Jesus Christ has done for us.

according to Wikipedia.org… (Everything I Do) I Do It for You” is what is called a power ballad performed by Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams and co-written with Michael Kamen and Robert John “Mutt” Lange, featured on the soundtrack album from the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and on Adams’ album Waking Up the Neighbours. It was an enormous chart success internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom, where it spent sixteen consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart (the longest in British chart history), seven weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and nine weeks atop the Canadian Singles Chart in Adams’s native Canada. It was a number one hit on many charts and sold 8 million copies worldwide, making it Adams’ most successful song.

Adams, Kamen and Lange won a Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television at the Grammy Awards of 1992, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song. Subsequently, the song has been covered by numerous singers around the world.

Oh, and here is my Brother singing “If you would only be mine” on YouTube… it is the song my Dad used to sing to my Mother, my Brother and Me.  Enjoy.
